Copy models or objects into another group

With the Designer license, you can copy models and objects and paste them into a database group. This allows you to use existing models to create new models that should also contain objects from the existing model (occurrence copies).

In contrast, pasting a model with objects creates definition copies of the source model's objects in the target model; so, the source model and target model use different objects.

If you copy objects in another group, definition copy are created so that you can use existing objects to create new objects that should retain some of the attributes of the source object.

Procedure. Procedure

  1. Click Application launcher Application launcher > Models and objects Models and objects.

  2. Click the Database with versioning capability database you want to use and navigate to the relevant database group. When you select the group, its contents are displayed in the details view.

  3. Move the mouse cursor over the row of the item you want to copy. The More More icon is displayed next to the item name.

  4. Click More More > Copy Copy.

  5. Select the group in which you want to paste the model or the object. The More More icon is displayed next to the group name.

  6. Click More More > Paste Paste.

If you insert a model, it is newly created, while occurrence copies of the existing objects are used for the objects it contains. If an object is inserted, a definition copy is created.

Tip

You can copy and paste either multiple models or multiple objects at the same time. To do this, activate two or more check boxes of models or objects and click Copy Copy displayed above the navigation bar. Now you can paste them into a group.
